Bowlers raise cash

ONE hundred bowlers took part in a tournament to raise funds for Greenaway Workshop.

Players from Matlock Thursday Friendly Bowls league held the event at Whitworth Park in Darley Dale and in Wirksworth.

The winner of the shield at Whitworth Park was David Clark and John Boadle.

At Wirksworth Eric Gregory and Mike Watson claimed the shield.

The event raised £1,108.30 for the Darley Dale workshop.

Consolation prizes were won by Terry Lane and David Ayre at Whitworth Park and by Faith Borst and Mike Fosdick at Wirksworth.”

A spokesman for the club said: “Thanks are due to everyone who helped with running the day’s events, providing tombola raffle prizes and food for the event.

“Above all a great debt of gratitude is due to John Winnard for organising the whole event. This is no easy task but everything ran smoothly.”
