A VILLAGE butcher’s brilliant bangers have reached the finals in the search for the UK’s top sausages.

Jake Fleetwood of Crich Butchers has had his sticky and sweet chilli recipe named as a contender for East Midland’s Star Sausage.

This is the second year running that Jake has reached the finals of the competition.

The butchers, in the Market Place, sells over 20 different types of sausages.

Jake said: “The sausage has really taken off over the last 12 months in the shop.

“It is one of our best sellers now. People come from all over for our sticky and sweet chilli sausage.

“It’s not over spicy. It has a subtle hint of chilli but it’s not too overpowering.”

All sausages will be subjected to strict judging by Noddy and the British Sausage Appreciation Society to ensure only the best of the best are crowned as one of Britain’s Legendary Bangers and awarded the Golden Sausage Disc.

He added: “The humble sausage can make any dish sparkle, and deserves its legendary status as a British favourite. I just know all the varieties available will blow me away.”

The competition is open to experts from butchers, supermarkets, brands, school cooks, and chefs, who all know what makes a truly top banger, this year British Sausage Week generated record entries from across the country.
