A popular store has proved it is one of the country’s best as it has scooped a prestigious national award.
One Stop, in Lime Tree Road, Matlock, came out top in the Environmental Sustainability category of the Independent Achievers Academy (IAA) awards. The store was also shortlisted for Staff Development and In-store Theatre.
The IAA, owned and managed by Newtrade, is a market leading business programme that helps develop the stores of independent convenience retailers and rewards best practice.
The judging panel of industry experts were impressed by the savings One Stop Matlock made by implementing sustainable alternatives in store, by switching to LED and halogen bulbs, putting timers on all plugs and investing in efficient refrigerator doors. The store has now reduced its energy bills by 42 per cent as a result.
Shop owner, Dee Sadani, said: “Being short listed in the awards created a real talking point in the area and for the store. Customers came in and praised staff so it was a boost to morale for all of us.
“I can’t wait to see the reaction from our customer’s when they know that we have won the award.”
“The way we shop has changed forever and retailers like One Stop Matlock play an important role in our local communities,” added Nick Shanagher, managing director of Newtrade.
“Retailers all over the country dedicate time to making sure their offer is right for their shoppers. This award is a great testament to the hard work of Dee and his team to help their customers save time and money, whilst providing excellent levels of quality and service.”
The shop was also named one of the Top 100 independent convenience shops in the UK and Ireland this summer.
