Mixed bag of results

THe number of people claiming Job Seekers’ Allowance across Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire has risen to levels last seen during the recession, the counties’ chamber has said.

But the Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire Chamber of Commerce (DNCC) said there had been some positive news in that a small net gain in the number of retail premises opened in its area

This was backed up by better-than-expected retail sales figures recently announced – up by 0.9 per cent in the month and 0.2 per cent on the year. A spokesman said: “There has been a real mixed bag of economic data released – some good, some bad – which just goes to show how delicately balanced business conditions are at the moment.”
