Tourism bosses are delighted after the Peak District was voted one of the top three destinations in the UK.

The national park came second in the favourite British holiday locations category of the Countryfile Magazine Awards 2012.

David James, chief executive of Visit Peak District and Derbyshire, said: “We are thrilled that Countryfile magazine’s panel of expert judges, backed by its readers, have recognised the special qualities and characteristics that put us among the cream of holiday locations.

“To come second in popularity only to Cornwall, one of the country’s key tourism destinations, and ahead of the likes of the Lake District, the Cotswolds and the Yorkshire Dales, is a huge achievement.”
