Brocklehursts of Bakewell provided £1,000 of clothing for the winner of a national competition to find the unsung heroes of rural Britain.

Simon McGowan scooped the prize from the country clothing shop after winning the contest to find Countryside magazine’s hero.

Readers nominated people who had to overcome challenges or given up their time to help others.

Simon and his wife Catherine, from Shropshire, collected his prize from store director Martin Brocklehurst which included a number of items such as moleskin trousers, brogue shoes, shirt, tie, jacket and coat.

Simon scooped the prize for his work looking after the couple’s disabled daughter and Catherine’s elderly parents.

“The clothes are excellent, and thanks to the expertise of staff, attention to detail and first class customer service, my outfit looks great and is extremely comfortable,” he said.
