Two bed and breakfasts are competing for a top industry award.

Yew Tree Cottage, in The Knoll, Tansley, and Hodgkinson’s Hotel, in South Parade, Matlock Bath, are among 25 finalists from across the country vying for the title of AA Friendliest Bed and Breakfast of the Year.

Diane Carrieri has been running Hodgkinson’s Hotel since 2000 following seven years working in hotels in Italy. Hodgkinson’s is a Grade II listed Georgian townhouse built at the height of the spa era.

At Yew Tree Cottage, Teanie Dornan, with help from her husband Richard, has been welcoming guests to their 18th Century Derbyshire Dales cottage since 2005.

She said: “My husband and I are fairly well travelled and we like to be treated nicely and we try to provide that sort of experience for our visitors.”

The winner will be revealed at a ceremony held at the Royal Horseguards Hotel in London.
