Village’s care report

A quarter of children are providing daily care to ageing parents – according to research carried out by a Darley Dale retirement village.

The study, carried out for National Carer’s Week by Audley, which manages St Elphin’s Park, questioned 1,000 who are bringing up their own children while also providing care and support to ageing parents.

Nick Sanderson, chief executive of Audley, said: “Without preparing for lifestyle and health changes, the elderly will increasingly have decisions made for them, unable to maintain the life they once led. By taking steps earlier in life to downsize and live in a safer, more suitable environment, individuals can lessen the physical and emotional strains they place on family.”
