A CYCLIST is taking on a sponsored 250mile ride in honour of his late father from the Peak District and raise cash for the Alzheimer’s Society.

Carl Denton, 48, of Barlow, will be riding from Manchester to London in 24 hours between June 8 and 9.

The 48 year-old, who was proud of dad Michael Denton, said: “Dad suffered with dementia and passed away in July last year so this will be very poignant for me. He was a business partner with Roy Hooton at Matlock insurance Consultants and he was involved in running Calver Football Club’s junior sides with Michael Hoyes and Jack Howard.

“He lived in Ashford-in-the-Water for 25 years and became a very good didgeridoo player in his retirement and could often be seen busking in Portland Square, Bakewell, where he raised money for children’s cancer charities.”

Pelican Cycles, of Chesterfield, is also sponsoring and supporting Carl during preparations.
