YOUNGSTERS at a youth centre have been given a helping hand thanks to a grant.

The Shack Youth Club, based in the Joseph Whitworth Centre, in Darley Dale, has been awarded £1,000 through Derbyshire County Council’s Members’ Community Leadership Scheme.

Saira Ali, from the group, said: “Some of the money is going to be used to get a lap top, so the young people can do a media course, such as video, photography and editing.”

She said that young people from the group – Eithan Richardson, Ashley Alsop and Dominic Pritty – had been taking part in litter picks and planting flower beds for Darley Dale in Bloom.

The youth club held every Thursday.

Children aged 13 and under meet from 5.30pm to 7pm and those aged 13 and over meet between 7pm and 9pm.
