A REMARKABLE man marked his sixth year as a centenarian with his family- including his wife is also in her hundreds.
Wilf Turberville turned 105 last week, and enjoyed his big day with his wife Ivy, who is 101, at the Valley Lodge nursing home on Matlock’s Bakewell Road where the couple have lived for the past few years.
The devoted pair have been married for more than 79 years and are thought to be Britain’s longest married couple.
Known as Monty, he received his telegram from the Queen and enjoyed his birthday milestone with members of his family.
Tina Parkes, activities co-ordinator at Valley Lodge, said: “His family were here and they had the lounge to themselves for a private party- he got plenty of sweets and biscuits!
“His wife said she had a better time than him!
“Monty is fantastic and does really well for his age.”
He was born in Darley Dale and is a vehicle enthusiast, setting a up a successful haulage business during his working days.
His wife Ivy is from Riber.
