It’s celebration time for tots and parents – after Matlock playgroup acquired new premises.
Following the closure of their Dimple Road site within All Saints’ Infant School the group has been searching for a new base since Christmas.
This week their site on Woolley Road was officially opened.
The pre-school playgroup will now be able to cater for the younger children from their existing Tin Hut site on Smedley Street and pre-school children at the new site, which was formerly Treetops out-of-school club.
Pre-school manager, Liz Neil, said: “We are so excited about this new opportunity.
“The new premises are perfect – it’s a very practical space and ideally located close to the Tin Hut site and the infant school, enabling us to maintain good links with the school and aid children’s transitions between settings.”
Playgroup staff are now appealing to families and businesses to help them kit out the new premises, ready for the September intake.
Furniture is needed as well as help decorating the building.
Playgroup chairperson, Natasha Hubbard, said the group would be spending the summer preparing the building.
She added: “This really is fantastic news for us, as it gives us the opportunity to expand and be able to offer more sessions.
“I would like to thank the manager and committee for all their efforts in securing the site, which did at times look like a lost cause.
“We will now spend the summer preparing the site for the September intake.
“Any help would be gratefully received.”
The playgroup has 65 children on its register for September and will be running 15 sessions a week during school term time, across the two sites.
However if demand increases 20 sessions could be hosted per week.
Places are available in September for children aged two-and-a-half to five-years-old.
