A VILLAGE pub is celebrating after picking up a top beer award.
The Flying Childers in Stanton in Peak was named the pub of the year by the Matlock and Dales branch of the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA).
Landlord and landlady Stuart and Mandy Redfern received a certificate for their efforts from the chairman of the local CAMRA branch, Angie Corby.
The couple have been in charge at the popular watering hole for seven years, and are no strangers to success.
They have been named in the Good Beer Guide for three years and were even named amongst the top 100 pubs in the country in a survey launched by a Sunday national newspaper.
Stuart added: “We have not won pub of the year before but we have won pub of the season twice.
“I knew we were in the top four for this award and it was nice to be nominated.
“It’s an old traditional unspoilt pub, and that’s what people like.”
Stuart says he likes to have a number of guest beers on tap.
CAMRA’s new branch chairman, Angie Corby presented the certificate, saying: “We have chosen this as the best pub out of the 48 in the Matlock area.”
