Generous Matlock Rotarians have donated £1,000 to help people affected by the Tsunami in Japan.

The money has paid for two shelter boxes in the disaster stricken country.

At their last meeting, just before the Tsunami and earthquake struck, club members gave a warm welcome to Japanese visitor Yuko Homma from Osaka and Lily Gong from Shanghai in China.

Yuko and Lily are currently studying English at the University of Nottingham sponsored by The Rotary Foundation.

Both Yuko and Lily described the way of life, the cultural differences and history of their home countries.

President Bill Darley said: “It is a great shame that so soon after Ms Homma came to Matlock giving such a wonderful description of her home country that such a disaster should have occurred.

“Her presence at club brings the scale of the disaster home to us all here.”
