A community group has achieved its goal of building new changing rooms for footballers to use.

The Whitworth Centre netted funding to building the much–needed facilities at Whitworth Park, in Darley Dale.

Sam Bettany, a member of the Whitworth Centre committee, said: “We have got more than one football club that uses the park – both juniors and senior.

“Nowadays clubs can’t participate in leagues until they have got proper changing facilities.

“This is a requirement and it means our little clubs would not be able to play without them.”

The committee realised it had to get money together to build the changing rooms in July this year and set to work finding the funding, as well as a contractor to carry out the work.

Darley Dale builder Tony Wood completed the work on behalf of the committee.
