Cynthia Machent was installed as the new President of the Rotary Club of Matlock, by retiring President Peter Wigglesworth, on Monday at the Temple Hotel, Matlock Bath.

Cynthia becomes the first lady President of Matlock Rotary in the 86 years that the club has been established in the town and marks the major contributions that ladies make to the Rotary International movement. Cynthia said that she was honoured to be the first lady President, thanked club members for the support given to her and hoped that everyone would have a year of fun with both the Clubs social and fund raising events.

In outlining her programme for the forthcoming year, President Cynthia hopes that the focus of the club will continue be based on charities and other activities in the local community. Last year, under the guidance of President Peter, the club supported a number of local charities, Greenaway Workshops, Derby Mountain Rescue, Matlock First Responders and Rainbows Hospice. Three local students are to be awarded bursaries to help with their University education and dictionaries were donated to local primary school students. Cementing the club’s relationship with Highfield School, prizes were awarded to two Highfields students in recognition of their excellent work in the community.

The club will be organising in conjunction with other local clubs a Vintage Car Rally and Craft Fair on July 28 July at Ashover. Come along and enjoy a great day out either as an entrant or as a spectator. The 11th Dovedale Dipper Challenge is to be held on the August 4.
