Consultants to survey parking

We are all looking forward to the opening of the new Arc Leisure Centre, but there is concern about the effect on parking in neighbouring roads.

At a recent district council meeting, Conservative councillors voted against my proposal that a refund should be offered to centre users after three hours and not the two hours proposed. I, and Matlock Town Council, have consistently been opposed to charging at the Arc, thus avoiding the cost and bureaucracy of installing pay and display machines and the refund of monies etc.

Readers may share my incredulity that the council is to commission consultants (again ! – remember the ‘Arc’ naming issue) to conduct before and after Arc opening surveys regarding the parking issue. I am yet to find out how much this will cost council taxpayers!
