Council’s car parks plan

Two car parks could be built in Matlock to stop drivers parking in the streets.

The new sites will be constructed by Derbyshire County Council for the authority’s Chatsworth Hall building, off Chesterfield Road, if given the go-ahead on Monday.

The site accessed via Chesterfield Road would have 23 spaces while the other site on Wellington Street would have 28. The plans have been recommended for approval despite concerns from Matlock Town Council about road safety.

The developments could cost £75,000 including the £45,000 demolition of a disused gym building. The car parks are set to ease congestion and parking issues on surrounding streets around the sites.
