In a meeting last Thursday, Derbyshire Dales District Council has voted in favour of the recommendation, which will maintain average bills for district council services at just 50 pence a day.

The freeze was agreed despite a near £500,000 central government grant cut in 2014/15, which comes on top of grant reductions of a 15.6 per cent last year and 16.2 per cent in 2012/13.

The authority claims council tax payers will not be asked to fund grant cuts.

Instead it will claim the one per cent equivalent council tax increase incentive offered by central Government to local councils that freeze charges.
