CRAWLIES creeped into the classroom for a recent animal-based education workshop.

The youngsters at Ambergate Playgroup welcomed Zoolab, and animal-handling company who bring along an array of unusual creatures for the children to learn about and even hold.

And at the methodist church hall on Devonshire street, there was a tarantula spider, a corn snake, a giant cockroach and an African snail among the exotic animals on display.

Playgroup supervisor Joanne Hartshorne said: “They really enjoyed it, it was great and they were really fascinated by it – none of them seemed scared of the animals though!”
