CCTV footage helped police in Wirksworth catch a man who scratched a car.
The Fiat Scudo was damaged on Sunday February 27 while it was parked in the car park at the back of The Wheatsheaf pub.
Officers checked CCTV footage, and were able to identify a 43-year-old man.
He was arrested and admitted causing the damage when he was interviewed by officers.
He will pay for repairs to the car under the restorative justice initiative, at the victim’s request.
PC Doug Eyre of the Wirksworth and Middleton Safer Neighbourhood Policing Team said: “The man has admitted damaging the vehicle and has agreed to cover the cost of the repairs as the owner has asked, through restorative justice, which encourages people to face up to their actions and provides them with a chance to do something to repair the harm.”
Officers are currently working with businesses in the Ravenstor Road area to set up CCTV cameras to deter crime.
