Chapel-en-le-Frith OAP confronted by burglar

A Chapel-en-le-Frith pensioner was forced to hand over money on Tuesday after coming face-to-face with a man burgling her home.

The 85-year-old was awoken by a noise in her house on Sycamore Road at 4.30am.

She walked from her bedroom and saw a man in the hallway who demanded money.

She handed over a quantity of cash before he left the property.

The offender was described as wearing dark clothing, gloves and had his face covered.

Inspector Martin Coey said: “This is a particularly unpleasant offence and very unusual for this area.

“We have a number of officers investigating it and are following a number of leads.

“We’ve increased patrols in the area.

“The victim is very upset, as is her family, but she’s a very strong-willed lady and has given us a lot to go on. She’s shaken up rather than injured.”

There were no signs of a break-in and police believe the suspect knows the area.
