Fracas is costly for trio

Chesterfield magistrates’ court heard on Monday how Reece Marr, 18, and Steven Gore, 19, and a 16-year-old male, who cannot be named for legal reasons, were approached by police.

The group had drifted to Stephenson Place, outside the Royal Bank of Scotland, after they had previously been threatened by two unknown people, according to the court.

Prosecuting solicitor Bill Taylor said a concerned PCSO approached the group and there was some pushing so he called for officers before the group was searched and one pushed out and an officer struck back.

CCTV, played in court, showed the group spilling into the street before they were restrained. During interviews, Gore said they had been threatened earlier by others and when police arrived Marr was rude to the PCSO and when Marr and the 16-year-old struggled with police Gore admitted using force.

Marr admitted squaring up to the PCSO and said when the 16-year-old was hit by an officer he started to push out to help. Defence solicitor Bob Bashforth said Gore and Marr felt they had been the victims after they had been threatened earlier by two others.

During the incident in November, the PCSO also recovered a chisel which had been stolen and dumped in a nearby bin by the 16-year-old. Katie Fowkes, defending, said the 16-year-old was now trying to get an apprenticeship. Marr, of Tennyson Way, Grassmoor, Chesterfield, and Gore, of Markham Road, Duckmanton, Chesterfield, pleaded guilty to threatening behaviour and the 16-year-old Chesterfield youth admitted stealing a chisel.

Gore and Marr must pay £190 each in fines, costs and victim surcharges. The 16-year-old had a previous referral order for damage extended by three months and must pay £100 in costs and a victim surcharge.
