Chesterfield magistrates’ court heard on Monday, July 28, how van driver Jon Lowe, 34, of St Augustine’s Mount, Chesterfield, was having problems getting round a motorist which was sorted but as he passed the motorist’s friend he racially abused him.

Prosecuting solicitor Ian Shaw said the complainant had been dropped off by his friend when Lowe shouted racist abuse at him. Lowe pleaded guilty to racially aggravated threatening behaviour after the incident in April.

Defence solicitor Bob Bashforth said the defendant and complainant live where parking is difficult and the complainant was talking to someone in a car which created problems as people tried to get by. Magistrates fined Lowe £250 and ordered him to pay £85 costs and a £25 victim surcharge.
