Cyclist dies days after being thrown into the air after hitting pothole

A cyclist thrown in the air after hitting a pothole in Cromford has died.

Carolyn Dumbleton was left fighting for her life after the incident, which happened as she cycled along Willersley Lane with her husband Ian on Sunday, July 8.

The 52-year-old, from Lincolnshire, is believed to have suffered a broken neck, severe bruising to her spinal cord and went into cardiac arrest following the crash. It has been reported she was thrown 60ft after hitting the pothole.

She was taken to hospital in Sheffield where her life support was switched off on Friday.

Lincolnshire Live has reported that Carolyn and her husband were keen cyclists who had biked around the UK and abroad during their 32-year marriage.

They had travelled to Derbyshire from their home in Lincoln to enjoy the scenery and were heading back from Matlock when the tragedy happened.
