Dales residents urged to recycle unwanted television equipment

Residents in Derbyshire are being reminded that there is no need to throw out old television equipment to convert to digital television.

When areas of the county switch to digital television in August and September televisions – even very old sets – can be easily converted using a set top box costing from around £20.

But some people may decide this is the time to buy a new television and old or unwanted television equipment should be taken to their nearest household waste recycling centre.

To find your nearest recycling centre, Call Derbyshire on 08456 058 058 or visit www.derbyshire.gov.uk and follow links to rubbish, waste and recycling.

Cabinet member for recycling and technology councillor John Allsop said: “Recycling electrical goods means valuable parts like plastics and metals can be reused in new products. It also means the potentially toxic elements in some of them don’t end up in landfill.”

To find out more, including when your household will switch, call Digital UK on 08456 50 50 50 or visit www.digitaluk.co.uk.
