A fortnight of responsibly-sourced food is upon us again and this year the Fairtrade movement is asking us to stand up for our farmers.

Fairtrade fortnight will run from February 29 to March 13, with the theme of “Sit down for breakfast, stand up for farmers”.

Nilufar Verjee, of the Fairtrade Foundation, said: “Use the power of your shopping to help ensure food security for world’s most vulnerable farmers and workers.”

The Derbyshire Dales Fairtrade group is encouraging us to eat a Fairtrade breakfast during the fortnight by using Fairtrade products.

Tansley Primary School will host a Fairtrade breakfast on Wednesday and St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School, in Matlock, will host one of their own on Thursday.

Third Space/Soul Space will host The Late Late Fairtrade Breakfast at the Imperial Rooms, Matlock, on March 13 from 6.30pm to 8.30pm. Email matlockfairtrade@gmail.com if you wish to attend.

There will be a Fairtrade breakfast everyday in Darley Dale during Fairtrade Fortnight.

Wirksworth Fairtrade Group will be holding a Fairtrade Breakfast Cafe at the Farmers Market on Saturday, March 5, from 10am to noon.
