Dales residents are being warned to ignore all cold calls from the Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB) as the are “almost certainly” scammers.
The warning has been issued in the wake of numerous reports of imposters, claiming to be from the CAB are, cold calling people offering help with accident claims.
Derbyshire Districts Citizens Advice Bureau says it would like to stress that no genuine CAB adviser, or anyone connected with the CAB service, would ever phone or text someone out of the blue.
A CAB spokesperson said: “If you are cold called or get a text about things such as loan offers, help with debt problems or accident claims – it is almost certainly a scam.”
The advice from Derbyshire Districts CAB is to make sure you don’t give or confirm any personal information and report the call immediately to Action Fraud on 0300 123 2040 or online at www.actionfraud.org.uk/report_fraud.
However, if you would like genuine advice, you can contact your local bureau for free, by visitng www.citizensadvice.org.uk or calling 0844 375 2712.
