Derbyshire motorcyclist dies after collision with lorry

A 53-year-old motorcyclist from Derbyshire has been killed after he was involved in a crash with an HGV on the motorway.

Emergency services were called to the northbound carriageway of the M6, near junction 18 for Holmes Chapel, at around 10.45am on Saturday.

Paramedics attended the scene and attempted to save the biker but his injuries proved to be fatal. The HGV driver was uninjured.

The carriageway was closed for more than seven hours while work was undertaken to recover the vehicles and deal with the incident, according to the Stoke Sentinel.

It is yet to be revealed where in Derbyshire the rider is from.

A Cheshire Police spokesman urged any witnesses to the incident to get in touch.

He said: “We were called to a road traffic collision at 10.45am on the M6 northbound carriageway, about half a mile from the exit at junction 18.

“An LGV was involved in a collision with a motorcycle, which sadly resulted in the rider sustaining fatal injuries. The driver of the LGV was uninjured.

“The rider of the motorcycle, a 53-year-old man, from Derbyshire, has yet to be formally identified but his family have been informed.

“If anyone can assist Cheshire Police with their enquiries, can they please call 101 and quote incident number 324 of May 20.”
