A campaign to recruit more Special Constables to Derbyshire police is proving successful.
The force has held events across the county in recent months to tell people more about specials and the role they play in policing communities.
Since September, 450 application packs have been handed out. Sixteen new recruits were sworn in earlier this month, 22 are currently being trained, 40 are due to start their training in May and a further 139 applicants are in the initial assessment stage.
Assistant Chief Constable Dee Collins said: “We are pleased that so many people have decided to join the Special Constabulary and I hope that we continue to receive applications.
“Specials work alongside regular officers and play an important part in keeping neighbourhoods safe.
“People of all ages and backgrounds are expressing an interest in signing up. Being a special is an exciting, varied and rewarding role and we are always actively recruiting for new people to join and become part of the Derbyshire policing family.”
