Villagers were treated to some real family fun as a week of carnival capers drew to a close.
Cheerleaders, Little Bo Peep and a host of colourful insects and animals were among the characters on show during the annual procession in Dethick, Lea and Holloway.
Five floats paraded from Holloway to Lea Green on Saturday with first prize being presented to an ‘undersea world’ theme while Holloway Playgroup scooped second prize for their English country garden float.
Carnival Queen, Alex Carty and her entourage led the procession which also included the Ashover Marching Band.
A range of stalls and side-shows were on offer as well as a display of tractors and vintage police cars.
Holloway Karate Group performed in the arena and crowds enjoyed a nail-biting demonstration of precision flying by The Red Arrows with Barrows.
The week of festivities also included sheep racing, a barbecue and the annual scarecrow festival with 20 creations on show across the village.
Top prize was presented to Lea Primary School for their traditional scarecrow.
The Fell Race, which had 120 entries, was won by Christian Edwards in a time of 32 minutes 36 secs and the ‘It’s a Knockout’ village sporting competition between Lea, Lea Bridge and Holloway, was won by Lea Bridge
Carol Taaffe-Finn, of the carnival committee, said despite the overcast weather the carnival was very well attended.
She added: “A big thanks’ to you all who gave up your valuable time to support our carnival and for all the hard work that went into the weeks events.
“The carnival is an important local event with the money raised used to support the community, sport and educational groups within the village.”
