DFS helps Antarctic

A Darley Dale business is doing its bit to preserve the heritage of a frozen landscape.

DFS sofa warehouse has partnered up with the United Kingdom Antarctic Heritage Trust (UKAHT), a charity working to conserve Antarctic buildings and encourage public knowledge about Antarctic heritage.

DFS offered part of its storage space to Darley Dale resident Simon Gill, who became operations manager for the trust in March and who was struggling to find a space large enough to accommodate an Antarctic season’s worth of food, stock and provisions.

He said: “The UKAHT sends a team to the Antarctic Peninsula every year to run and look after a historic building for the Austral summer.

“Everything the team needs for five months has to be ordered ahead of time, requiring multiple deliveries every day throughout the summer, before being sent down by container ship”.
