It was a riot of colour as Tansley hosted its flower festival and well dressings this week – and it has been hailed as one of the best events yet.

Dozens of flower arrangements went on display at Holy Trinity Church as people flocked from all over the country to marvel at the incredible blooms.

And the flower festival coincided with the popular well dressings, displayed at four different points in the village.

The theme for both the flower festival and the well dressings this year was popular children’s story books.

A spokeswoman for the flower festival said: “There’s some really beautiful flower arrangements in that church. There’s a lot of money been spent on each item and it has been very successful.

“We’ve had people from all over the country and it’s been very well attended. It’s been one of the best flower festivals yet.”

Flower arrangers let their imaginations run wild and came up with some superbly innovative and beautiful designs for the festival.

The spokeswoman said: “I wouldn’t like to single out anybody for special praise as a highlight, or say anybody’s better than anybody else, because we’re all amateurs.

However, I would say that all of the arrangements were fantastic.”

She added: “The well dressings are always popular with the public.”

In Tansley four wells are dressed at four different locations on Church Street; the Methodist Church, Oak Lodge, Holy Trinity Church and the village hall.

As part of the flower festival and well dressing festivities, a blessing service took place on the morning of Saturday, July 9, at Holy Trinity Church.

And on Sunday, July 10, there was a band concert at 2.30pm outside the village hall with refreshments served all day.

Tansley Primary School pupils got involved with both the well dressing and the flower festival.

Pupils contributed to a flower display on the theme of The Hungry Caterpillar, as well as a well dressing based on The Gruffalo at the Tansley Well Dressing and Flower Festival.
