A FORMER children’s television presenter has unveiled a new fund-raising campaign at an historic site.

Simon Groom, who co-presented Blue Peter from 1978 to 1986, revealed a giant thermometer on the side of Cromford Mill, outlining the progress of the campaign to raise £250,000.

The Arkwright Society, which has been working for the past 30 years to preserve the landmark site, has set the target.

Sarah McLeod, chief executive of the society, said: “We’re working really hard at Cromford to transform our largest building into a world-class visitor centre and creative industries hub.

“That will make the site self supporting, but in order to reach this milestone we must overcome two challenges – closing the remaining funding gap so that this project can commence, whilst at the same time raising enough funds to ensure we meet our obligations to maintain and improve the site for future generations until they can be funded by income from that project.”

The society has so far raised £35,000 towards its final target.
