Members of an arts organisation that helps disabled people were delighted after hearing they had been awarded vital funding.
Artists at First Movement celebrated after hearing that the Rowsley based group will be part of the Arts Council’s new National Portfolio of funded organisations.
First Movement members believe that this decision indicates an important endorsement both of First Movement’s arts projects with learning disabled people, and of the Level Centre as a resource for local artists.
The decision comes against a background of reduced funding that has seen many funded arts bodies lose future backing.
Strategic executive Peter Shelton said: “We are delighted that Arts Council England has decided to continue its long term funding for First Movement through this new scheme.
“We know that Arts Council England has had to make difficult choices, and that many excellent organisations that have previously been funded will not be in the future. We are, therefore, especially grateful for this strong vote of confidence in our arts work with learning disabled people.
“We look forward to working closely with Arts Council England to help implement their core objectives in the future.”
