Gary is appointed new deputy chief constable

A new deputy chief constable of Derbyshire has been appointed to take over from Peter Goodman when he starts his new role as chief constable.

Gary Knighton, who is currently the deputy chief constable for Lincolnshire Police, will take over the role at the end of June.

Prior to working at Lincolnshire, where he joined in April last year, Gary served in Derbyshire for 27 years and has worked at both north and south divisions.

Gary, who was born and bred in the county, said: “I am delighted to be returning to Derbyshire as deputy chief constable.

“I have many happy memories spent in the county during my 27 years’ service and am looking forward to, once again, serving the communities of this wonderful county.

Mick Creedon, retiring chief constable, added: “Throughout his policing career, Gary has served up and down the county and he knows Derbyshire like the back of his hand .

“He is an experienced police officer, a serving deputy chief constable and he is utterly committed to the people of this county.

“He is an excellent appointment to the role of deputy chief constable and will work brilliantly with Peter Goodman who has taken up the post of chief constable.

“I have every confidence that Gary will continue to serve Derbyshire with the same unwavering dedication that has defined his career so far.”
