A WOODED area’s entrance has been given a new makeover which was officially opened this week.

People from Wirksworth attended the ceremony on Monday for the new attractive gates at Stoney Wood.

Mayor of Wirksworth, Cllr Andy Pollock, led the opening and commented on how it had been a fantastic year for Stoney Wood with the new entrance art work at the bottom of the site, and the recent opening of the StarDisc at its summit.

Designed and built by local artist Dan Marsh, the gates have taken over two years to come to fruition, with plenty of fundraising needed to meet the near £3,000 cost.

Support also came from Cllr Garry Purdy and Derbyshire Dales Community Fund. The next event in the wood is Wassailing in the Community Orchard on Friday January 13 at 7pm. For details phone 01629 824258.
