John and Jennie Lovett were joined by over 40 family and friends at their home on Over Lane, Baslow, to mark their milestone together, 53 years after the duo met at Sheffield’s Locamo Ballroom in 1958.

Apprentice John, 74, fell head of heels for keen dancer Jennie, 71 and they were married at All Saint’s Church in Hassop on September 2, 1961.

John worked for Spear and Jackson in Sheffield, while Jennie was a nurse at Sheffield Children’s hospital, before becoming a full time mum.

John now acts as a full time carer for Jennie, who sadly suffered a stroke four years ago.

The pair have three daughters together, Joanne, 45, Gaynor, 43 and Catherine, 41 and four grandsons.

John said: “I am very lucky to have found the right girl. The secret to a happy marriage is all about luck, but I don’t regret a thing.”
