Groups get £40k share

Community groups have been awarded almost £40,000 in the latest round of Derbyshire County Council’s Community Action Grants.

The grants were introduced this year with a £250,000 funding pot to be awarded by the end of 2012- supporting the work of voluntary groups to help build flourishing communities.

Among those to have benefited is 10th Matlock (1st Wirksworth) Scouts, who received £998 to help buy camping equipment, £1,000 for Wirksworth and Middleton Cricket Club to complete the club’s pavilion, £390 for Crich Careline to raise the profile and £1,000 for 1st Crich Scouts towards a replacement floor for their hut.

The deadline for the next round of grants, which can be up to £1,000 and are available to small groups and charities, is January 27.
