Delicious aromas drifted across Matlock Green during the finals of Derbyshire Girlguiding’s Go Cook It Competition.

Following heats held all around Derbyshire the six finalists met to battle it out for the title Go Cook It Champions 2011.

The six teams of three Guides, aged ten to 14, were challenged to produce a three course meal for two showcasing fresh, seasonal and local produce.

The judges included County Councillors George and Jean Wharmby, Derbyshire Dales District Councillor Tony Millward and Matlock Town Councillor Peter Wildgoose. Guide County Commissioner, Edwina Edwards and former Home Economics teacher Lorna Gibbs completed the judging team.

Ann Hall, of Girlguiding Derbyshire, said: “Their task was not easy. The girls served up delights such as home made pasta, home baked bread with home made sun dried tomatoes, chicken curry, home grown courgette and mozzarella salad and rhubarb and ginger crumble.”

Teams were also marked on team work, hygiene and presentation. After much deliberation the judges announced their results and the winners were 1st Starkholmes Guides, representing Derbyshire Mid East, and the runners up 1st Sandiacre Guides, from Derbyshire Erewash.
