The future of a Darley Dale site hangs in the balance as a business’s former headquarters have bene put on the market.

The former base for computer systems company Servo has been put up for sale for £1.3million.

In it’s hay day Darley Lodge and Servo House, which are situated off the A6, in Darley Dale, employed around 45 local people in its offices and warehouse.

The company moved its base to Clay Cross in July last year, offering all employees the chance to transfer.

Since the transfer, the 2.7 acre Darley Dale site has remained unoccupied.

The company was recently taken over by Phoenix, and the offices have now come up for sale with estate agents Cummings Commercial.

In its brochure, the agent describes the premises as ‘high quality offices in an attractive rural setting with extensive car parking facilities.

It also says the site has potential for development, subject to planning, however the district councillor for the town, David Fearn, says he hopes the site will remain for commercial use.

Cllr Fearn, who sits on both the central and northern and southern planning committees for Derbyshire Dales District Council, said: “I would like to see a similar business there and I don’t think any other kind of use would be particularly welcome.

“We need the jobs and the buildings there are good buildings.”

He said to put a housing development there would contravene the local plan, however couldn’t rule out that planners could consider the site for affordable housing.

The site offers just over 16,000 square feet of office and workshop space across the two buildings, which are set among parkland in what is described as an ‘idyllic rural setting’.

In the agent’s description, it says: “Darley Lodge comprises two storey, period office buildings of stone construction with two storey annex and modern portal frame workshop.”

In describing Servo House, the agent says it comprises of three-storey office building with central core, benefiting from aluminium framed double glazed windows, air conditioning, attractive reception and glazed meeting room.
