Twistin’ Tots celebrated its fifth birthday with cake and jelly last week.

Babies, toddlers and pre-schoolers commemorated the launch of Twistin’ Tots in June 2006 with a big birthday party.

There were also prizes for the best fancy dress costume. Classes have been running in Matlock since October 2009.

Jacqui Davis, Twistin’ Tots leader, said: “I am thrilled to be celebrating five years of classes and have already expanded to offer parties.

“I never thought when I started the Belper class five years ago that we would still be going strong five years later. It’s unbelievable where the time has gone, but it has been an enjoyable journey to get here and my classes are now very well established and regarded throughout the Amber Valley.

“Most people who come to us for the first time are coming because the classes have been recommended to them, so I must be doing something right. The last five years have been great fun and I am now looking forward to the next five and thinking of ways to improve classes and expand the business.”

Matlock classes run on Tuesdays at 10am at All Saints Hall on Smedley Street.

Jacqui continued, “New mums often come along to make new friends with children of a similar age and we get lots of grandparents – especially at the Matlock classes - bringing their grandchildren. It’s never too young to start introducing your children to music classes; a baby is never too young to learn or receive musical stimulation, in fact it has been proven to help young children develop faster – especially verbally as they can pick up rhymes much quicker than isolated words or long sentences. Older children benefit too, as not only do Twistin’ Tots classes tire them out, they are fun, can help with language development and they develop social skills and the ability to listen to instructions.”

Classes now run six times a week in four locations – Belper, Little Eaton, Matlock and Ripley.

Twistin’ Tots classes aim to promote learning, co-ordination and movement in young children. Most use simple actions that children can join in with and there are also a variety of props used to assist children’s learning development and motor skills. Classes are suitable from birth to aged five.
