A charity is appealing for volunteers in Matlock and Bakewell to care for its pooches.

Guide Dogs, a national charity dedicated to providing dogs for blind people, is seeking volunteers who are prepared to house its four-legged trainees for a period of 6-12 weeks.

Rebekah Shepherd, a spokesman for Guide Dogs, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity to have the benefits of caring for a dog without the full-time responsibility.”

“It’s also very rewarding to be involved in the upbringing of a guide dog which will one day provide freedom and independence to a blind or partially sighted person.”

Boarders must be willing to have the trainee guide dog in their home, feed it and groom it on a daily basis.

For information on becoming a boarder email volunteer@guidedogs.org.uk or telephone 0845 371 7771.
