Honours for those who give to us all

Congratulations to Cllr Geoff Stevens in receiving an honour from the Queen.

He clearly is a man who has dedicated his life to Matlock and he deserves to be credited for all that he has done for the town during 40 years of public service.

To be following in the footsteps of his own father must make it even more rewarding for him.

Cllr Stevens is someone who was often featured in our paper because of his high profile and business in the town but few people knew just how much he was doing behind the scenes.

It is this extra work that few people know about that the Mercury will be rewarding with its own New Year Honours this Friday.

Over the last few weeks we have asked you to nominate people who you believe give that little bit extra to the community and who will never push themselves forward for thanks.

We will be presenting certificates to 14 of these generous souls at our ceremony in the Imperial Rooms and we are expecting quite a turnout of friends and family to support them.

To find out who has been honoured make sure you get next week’s Mercury when we will have a full report and pictures.
