Matlock Air Cadets proved that size isn’t everything by achieving second place overall among 32 other rival squadrons in the Trent Wing Annual Field Day Competition on Sunday, July 17.

Competing at RAF Digby, in Lincolnshire, they won first place in the tent erecting and aircraft modelling categories and second in other categories, while holding their own throughout the event against huge competition from squadrons with up to three times as many cadets.

Commanding Officer Sarah Pagliano said: “While we have in recent years come away with a trophy for one category, this year the cadets pulled out all the stops and competed superbly in just about everything. The really big squadrons have a better chance at excelling at more things, but our boys and girls really performed superbly and achieved an all-time best result for the squadron.”
