It was a sad day when St Elphin’s School closed in 2005, but in many ways, the school has carried on in the form of the Old Girls Guild, various groups on Facebook, and numerous reunions which have been held all over the world since the school’s closure.
In December 2010, a website was launched (www.stelphins.co.uk) which now has lots of information and photographs about the school. We are also compiling a list of all memorabilia, photographs and records appertaining to the school. Although a lot of information is stored at the Derbyshire Record Office in Matlock, there are still a lot of items that we are unaware of – many of which were purchased at the auction held at the school in 2005. Unfortunately, the auctioneers (Fidler Taylor) don’t have any records pre-2006, so it has proven difficult.
We are keen to track these items down in order to build up a database as to what is still around. In particular we are looking for a portrait of Miss Robinson (Head Mistress 1958 to 1975) that hung on the wall going up the front stairs.
If anyone knows the whereabouts of any items relating to St Elphin’s School or can provide any further information please contact Liz Donlan (nee Bailey, pupil 1967 to 1973) on 07860 315300 or firstname.lastname@example.org, or Gill Haywood (nee Prescott, pupil 1968 to 1977) at email@example.com.
