A ladies’ group has celebrated its 50th anniversary.

The St Helen’s Ladies’ Group held a reunion in The Gallery Room of the Joseph Whitworth centre, in Darley Dale.

The group, formerly known as the St Helen’s Young Wives first started meeting in the vicarage of St Helen’s, Darley Dale, in 1962.

The ladies included Mrs St John Smith, the vicar’s wife, June Taylor, Mrs Wragg, Mary Glover, Mrs Paulson, Laura Parks, Margaret Raynes, Louis Wibberley, Sheila Slack and Joan Clarke.

The group ran a number of jumble sales and cake stalls each year, the money from which was passed onto various charities.

The St Helen’s Ladies’ Group now meets at 7.30pm on the first Wednesday of each month in the Joseph Whitworth Room of the Whitworth Centre.

Following a summer break, the ladies plan to recommence on September 5 with a quiz.
