TIME is almost running out for people to nominate a ‘local hero’ in the Excellence in Community Awards.

Derbyshire County Council is keen to hear about exceptional people, groups and organisations for consideration in this years prestigious ceremony.

The sort of things the council are looking to award are: raising money for good causes, protecting the Derbyshire environment, making the area safer, caring and promoting the county through sporting, musical, academic or artistic success.

The ceremony will take place at the Devonshire Dome, Buxton, on Monday 15 October.

Individuals, groups, businesses, volunteers and charities that improve the lives of others will be honoured at the awards – which are now in their sixth year.

Councillor Andrew Lewer, Leader of Derbyshire County Council, said: “Please tell us about truly exceptional people who put the needs of others first and make a difference to their communities.”

You can make your nominations at www.derbyshire.gov.uk/excellenceawards or by picking up a form in your nearest library.

The awards are open to anyone over 18-years-old and the closing date for nominations is August 10.
