Learn to save a life at Gulliver’s

St John Ambulance, the nation’s leading first aid charity, will be inviting visitors to Gulliver’s Kingdom to learn life saving first aid skills on Wednesday 7 August.

The charity will be giving free demonstrations so that the public can learn how to save a life using easy to follow techniques including how to deal with someone who is choking, bleeding, someone who is unconscious, someone who has stopped breathing and someone who is having a heart attack.

Research carried out by St John Ambulance has shown that up to 140,000 people* die every year in situations where first aid could have given them the chance to live.

This is one of a series of road shows to be held by St John Ambulance at venues across the East Midlands during the summer months in a bid to equip even more people with vital first aid skills, as well as providing information about first aid training courses in the local area.

Visitors to Gulliver’s Kingdom can go to the St John Ambulance marquee next to the Bear Show near the Guest relations at the main entrance from 10am until 4pm.

St John Ambulance has already been to Derby Train Station on Wednesday 24 July and Carsington Water on Sunday 28 July. They will be at Derby Train Station again on Tuesday 13 August as part of these summer road shows.

Carl Makins, Regional Training and Community Projects Manager for St John Ambulance, said:

‘We know how important first aid is and as the nation’s leading first aid charity we believe that no-one should suffer from the lack of a trained first aider. With basic first aid skills, anyone can be the difference between a life lost and a life saved for someone at home, at school, whilst playing sport or just out and about. We are very pleased to be able to hold this road show at Gulliver’s Kingdom and we look forward to seeing people at this and other events soon.’

A spokesperson from Gulliver’s Kingdom said: ‘We are really looking forward to having St John Ambulance on site and pleased to be supporting the road shows as they visit venues throughout the region.’

St John Ambulance hosts a variety of training courses across Derbyshire including Essential and Basic first aid which deal with a range of serious conditions and incidents and cover choking, severe bleeding, chest pains and CPR.

It also offers training tailored to first aid for sport, activity groups and families, as well as workplace first aid training.
