PLANS to re-open the Grand Pavilion in Matlock Bath were given a major boost after a three-year lease was signed between Derbyshire Dales District Council and the charity, Grand Pavilion Ltd.

After signing the lease, charity chairman, Gregor Macgregor said: “I am so pleased to see us move to the next stage of the plan, which I laid out two years ago.

“At that time we were seen as just a group of concerned locals, trying to get a futile campaign off the ground.

“Now we are a registered charity with a lease on the building we want to save.”

There are hopes of revamping the old venue which was once a leading beacon for entertainment.

With the lease now in place, the charity can begin applying for funding.

Mr Macgregor thanked Lovedays Solicitors in Matlock for giving their services for free, and he encouraged people to use the cash machine at the Pavilion, saying it could mean increased rent payment to the Pavilion at a cost to the bank, rather than the customer.
